Back from Bead&Button
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007
I recently exhibited at the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee, for the 2nd time.
I love being at this show- the sites are amazing, I get to see friends and it is a place to make wonderful artistic and business contacts.
My first time there I was just short of breaking even after expenses were paid.
After hearing many times that “it’s tough to be a first timer.”
I decided to give it another try, hoping this time it would be more financially rewarding.
My overall profits from this year will not be much more than last year - not great news given I was hoping and planning for an increase. It was not until the last day that I finally made back my booth fee. Even though this was both nerve racking and disappointing - it did force me into some deep thought about what my next steps needed to be.
For my planning purposes, B&B is basically a bead show.
If I want to return to this show (which I might because I love being at this show. It’s just fun and exciting.)
I would need to increase my inventory of charms, pendants and beads. I’d still bring my Buttons along, but they have to be small part of my table display.
You know, I could do that! I could go to a 5×10 booth, helping to keep down costs.
Stick with what you know: I know my main customers are knitters and fiber artists, so that is where I need to put my main advertising/show dollars.
Therefore, I need to seek out more Wool and Fiber shows, possibly Quilt Shows, where more of my potential customers may be.
The TNNA show I exhibited in the first weekend of June was a great success compared to the previous year. I will definitely be there next year. This was a wholesale show, taking orders. I now have to make all the buttons for all those order!
MIA
Saturday, May 26th, 2007I have been missing in action on the Blog scene. I have six days
until my first major show, The National NeedleArts Summer Market.
This is a wholesale show. Not the major stresser as the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee,
the following weekend. I am frantically trying to produce inventory for this MAJOR event.
Until after the shows or maybe in the hotel, I will be MIA. I will be posting when I return!
I hope to see you in Columbus for TNNA or Milwaukee for Bead&Button!!
